Yorkshire Status: Fairly common and widespread resident.

This attractive moth is recorded all across the county in small numbers. It is a woodland species, the larvae preferring birch and alder, but also seen at times on other trees. It sometimes wanders into gardens. Numbers have been good in recent years and we normally receive well over 100 records per year. It is however only usually seen in small numbers. 97% of our records are of one or two moths; the maximum ever recorded at once is eight.
