Yorkshire Status: Very rare migrant.

Scarce Dagger is a species of lowland oak woodland and was resident in Surrey, east Sussex and Kent up until about 1910. Since then it has only occurred as a very rare migrant. Most of these have been in the south-east, but one reached Spurn on 25/7/2008 - a most unexpected addition to the county list. The map in Noctuidae Europaea shows the distribution extending to all of the channel coast, but the text says "evidently becoming more rare in many areas". Perhaps it is in decline - one might expect more records if it was widespread across the channel.
