Yorkshire Status: Common and widespread resident.

In 1907, Porritt wrote about Brown Rustic saying "occurs almost everywhere but seldom in abundance". Not much has changed since then, though numbers have increased in recent years. Although the larvae feed on herbaceous plants, it is most commonly trapped in broadleaved woodland. It is common over most of the county, though there are some areas such as the west of VC63 and the eastern half of VC61 where it is much more unusual. Good numbers can be found at some sites, for example 71 at Crossgates Quarry in VC62 on 11/6/2023.

Sutton & Beaumont, 1989: Previously only recorded from lowland sites. This species has now been taken much more widely in the County.
