Yorkshire Status: Very common and widespread resident.

"Abundant, probably everywhere" said Porritt in 1883, and this is still a common moth across the county. It occurs in both lowland and upland areas in a variety of settings, but the biggest counts tend to come from upland areas for example 138 in Ribblesdale on 24/5/2017. Like the rest of the genus it is a grassland moth, and seem to be happiest on calcareous grassland. Numbers in the county are healthy.

Sutton & Beaumont, 1989: Generally frequent to common throughout all five vice-counties in a variety of grassy habitats. Occasionally a dark grey (melanic) form occurs.
