Yorkshire Status: Fairly common and widespread resident.

"Widely distributed and common" wrote Porritt in 1883. This was still the case until about the 1980s, but since then it has been in slow and steady decline and this has been particularly marked since 2010. The number of records per year has remained constant but of course recording effort has increased substantially since then so this represents a significant decline. This is backed up nationally by Rothamsted data. Although it still occurs all over the county, the biggest counts tend to come from VC61. It favours calcareous grassland, particularly in coastal locations but also inland.
