Yorkshire Status: Local resident.

Porritt in both 1883 and 1907 just knew Fen Wainscot from Askham Bog, Beverley and Bramham and he described it as "very local". It was an uncommon moth in the county until the 1970s when it began to occur regularly and in good numbers at Spurn. In the 1980s and 90s it began to move slowly north and west, eventually reaching VC65 in 2018. It is still absent from the western third of the county, and as there are few reed beds in this area, its distribution may well stay as it is today. Most reed-feeding species have followed a similar pattern in recent years. This is an easy to identify Wainscot - rather attractive and silky in appearance. It has a tendency to wander at times and can appear in gardens. It is usually trapped in small numbers but in some reedy areas in the south-east of the county it can be quite common, for example 63 at Skerne Wetlands on 19/7/2022.

Sutton & Beaumont, 1989: Most frequent in reed-beds along the Humber estuary. There are a few other Yorkshire localities for this species.
