Yorkshire Status: Common and widespread resident.

In 1907 Porritt said that Mottled Rustic "apparently occurs all over the county, but in some districts very sparingly". Like today, it was probably less common in upland areas, as this is a moth of lowland habitats. Numbers are stable in the county and in a good year we can receive 1000 records. Big numbers are recorded at some sites, for example 101 at Austerfield on 6/7/18. The markings are similar to Uncertain and Rustic but the orbicular and reniform stigmata do not have pale outlines. In recent years we have had moths in September and October, suggestive of a small second brood.

Sutton & Beaumont, 1989: Possibly more common than formerly. Now recorded commonly from all five vice-counties.

Recorded in 147 (74%) of 200 10k Squares.
First Recorded in 1876.
Last Recorded in 2023.
