Yorkshire Status: Scarce and local resident.

In 1883 Porritt described this attractive species as "generally common but less so in the south West Riding." I think that today we would describe it as fairly common in broad-leaved woodland all across the county - the gaps in the distribution maps corresponding with a lack of suitable woodland. It is usually seen in small numbers, 85% of records being of single moths, but in good woodland, counts can occasionally reach double figures. It is encountered a little more frequently than Scarce Silver-lines, possibly due to not being confined to oak woodland.

Sutton & Beaumont, 1989: A species associated with broad leaved woodland. Taken regularly and widely in vice-counties 62 to 64, but rather local in VC61 due to lack of suitable habitat. Not recorded from VC65, although taken regularly only just over the VC64 border near Ripon (S&JW pers. comm.).
