Yorkshire Status: Very rare migrant.

Our only record is of a moth trapped at Spurn on 11/9/2002. A Nycteoline species was trapped on 9th September. Initially thought to be Oak Nycteoline it was photographed and released. Further examination of the photograph suggested the moth was Eastern Nycteoline and remarkably what was presumably the same moth was re-trapped two nights later. Genitalia examination proved it to be Eastern Nycteoline, a migrant moth which at the time was new for Britain. Since then, two specimens from Kent in 1993 and 1999 were retrospectively proven to be this species, and there have been subsequent records from Suffolk and Dorset. It is easy to overlook it as Oak Nycteoline, but it is a slightly different shape, without the broad "shoulders", and has a broader forewing.
