Yorkshire Status: Common and widespread resident.

This has always been a widely-distributed and common moth all across the county. The larvae feed on a variety of herbaceous plants and it occurs in many different habitats including gardens. The maximum count is 61 at Skelton (VC62) on 11/6/2006. Numbers may have fallen a little in recent years. When fresh it is usually easy to separate from the pinker, plainer, and later-flying Plain Golden Y. Occasionally moths are reported in September and it is not obvious whether these are from a small second brood or whether they are misidentifications of Plain Golden Y.

Sutton & Beaumont, 1989: Widely recorded and often common in all five vice-counties, emerging slightly earlier than A. jota (Linnaeus).

Recorded in 166 (83%) of 200 10k Squares.
First Recorded in 1883.
Last Recorded in 2023.
