Yorkshire Status: Scarce and thinly distributed or restricted resident.

Scarce Silver Y is resident on heather moorland across upland areas of the county and also occurs at times as a migrant in lowland areas. This was particularly the case in 2006 when there were a lot of records in VC61. Native moths occasionally wander to lower ground. Numbers caught reflect the amount of trapping in suitable habitat. An increase in trapping on Keighley Moor recently has resulted in counts reaching double figures. Unusually for a heather-feeding species it is absent from our lowland heaths. Nationally it does not seem to be doing well and has been lost from parts of its former range.
