Yorkshire Status: Abundant and widespread resident.

This is a common and widespread species across the whole county with no recent changes in numbers. Before the late 1990s it was univoltine in Yorkshire with a single brood peaking in late July. Since then it has become bivoltine. The first brood is a couple of weeks earlier and there is an increasingly large second brood in September with records continuing into November. The second generation is significantly smaller and often darker. It is widespread wherever nettles grow and is often disturbed by day, though it comes readily to light - the maximum count being 70 at Bishop Monkton on 29/6/2005. Our population is healthy and numbers are stable.

Sutton & Beaumont, 1989: Widely recorded and generally abundant wherever nettles are found in all five vice-counties.

Recorded in 175 (88%) of 200 10k Squares.
First Recorded in 1846.
Last Recorded in 2023.
