Yorkshire Status: Local resident.

In 1883, Porritt only knew this species from three sites - Askham Bog, Harrogate and Scarborough. It remained very uncommon in the county until around 2000 when we started to get more records. Since then numbers have shot up and we now receive more than 100 records per year. These come from sites spread all across the county. It is very much a moth of damp places, but the food plant is unknown in the UK. It could easily be mistaken for a micro-moth and thought to be an odd-looking pyralid. It is clearly double-brooded in Yorkshire despite what the Field Guide tells us. Nationally, numbers have increased considerably.

Sutton & Beaumont, 1989: There have been a few new sites reported for this very local species but most records are very recent so it is not yet clear whether it is established at any of them.

Recorded in 104 (52%) of 200 10k Squares.
First Recorded in 1883.
Last Recorded in 2023.
