Yorkshire Status: Extinct in Yorkshire.

At no time in the past has this been a common moth in Yorkshire. Porritt was just aware of old records from Wakefield and York, and these are the most northerly ever recorded. The name "Common" is curious, but according to MBGBI Vol 9, "in the past it was usually abundant where found" - presumably at some sites in the south of England. Its distribution in the UK has shrunk dramatically and it is now very local at scattered sites. We often receive records of "Common Fan-foot" but these all prove to be Fan-foot.

Sutton and Beaumont, 1987: Not definitely recorded since Porritt (1883-86) when it was taken in Wakefield (VC63) and York. This is a much decreased species, now very uncommon and local in Britain. There are records shown in 10km squares SE02 and SE30 on map 220 in MBGBI 10, but unless these can be traced and substantiated they must be treated as errors.
