Yorkshire Status: Thinly distributed resident.

This species is widespread across the county. It can occur in a variety of habitats including gardens, but is only seen in large numbers in mature broad-leaved woodland, for example 108 at Ellington Banks on 11/11/2004. It is strongly attracted to light and tends to fly in the first few hours of darkness. It is difficult to comment on trends as by the time it is on the wing, many moth trappers have packed away their traps until the winter.

Sutton & Beaumont, 1989: Widely distributed over all five vice-counties and most commonly found in well wooded areas. The late emergence of this moth means it is not commonly reported, but the larvae may often be found on tree-trunks in June.
