Yorkshire Status: Very rare and very local. No recent record.

This moth was last recorded in 1850. It was formerly resident on Dallowgill and Blubberhouses Moors. It would be a major sensation if a small population was still hanging on undetected. There have been no British records since 1965.

Sutton & Beaumont, 1989: Not recorded since Porritt (1883-86) and not recorded from elsewhere in Britain since 1965 (Skinner, 1984). It was previously well known on moors near Sheffield (VC63) and Ripon (VC64) but there had been no definite record for many years before Porritt was writing. Skinner (1984) comments that being so local and easily overlooked it is unlikely to be extinct, so it may be that there is some remote part of Yorkshire where this species still holds on.
