Yorkshire Status: Fairly common resident.

This species is locally common in oak woodland across the county. It also feeds sometimes on sweet chestnut. The leaf mines are characteristic and are a white upper-surface blotch which is a little reminiscent of a fried egg. It becomes pale brown with age. Frass is ejected through a slit in the upper surface and there are often several mines in one leaf. Pupation takes place within the mine. Many records are of adults coming to light. The adult is golden-brown with darker speckled tips to the wings. It could be mistaken for Coptotriche marginea which has a darker head, antennae and wing tips. The other confusion species, Tischerea dodonea, has not (yet!) been recorded in Yorkshire.

Recorded in 105 (53%) of 200 10k Squares.
