Yorkshire Status: Very rare and very local.

Sutton & Beaumont, 1989: VC62. Buttercrambe, 17.6.1942; Malton Road, York, 22.5.1943 (AS coll.).

VC63. Shown as occurring on map 143 in MBGBI 1.

2013 (CHF): A scarce moth in the county with no recent records. It can be difficult to locate as it flies in sunshine around the tops of tall sallow bushes. The important features are the long silvery white antennae of the male with black scales on each segment and the hairy black head. Females have much shorter darker antennae and a ferruginous head. It could be mistaken for Nemophora cupriacella or Adela (Cauchas) rufimitrella.

Argus 87, 2019: There are two records from the 1940s in the York area of VC62. There are indications of its occurrence in other Yorkshire vice-counties on distribution maps (in MBGBI vol. 1 & A Field Guide to the Smaller Moths of Great Britain and Ireland (2018)) but we have no details of any of these.

VC63. Thrybergh C. P., 8.4.2019 (DSh). FIRST CONFIRMED VICE-COUNTY RECORD.

Recorded in 5 (3%) of 200 10k Squares.
First Recorded in 1942.
Last Recorded in 2023.
