Yorkshire Status: Local resident.

This species can be found as an adult flying in numbers around the lower branches of oak trees on sunny days in April and May, or more commonly detected as a larval mine on oak. The larva makes a gall in the petiole or midrib, then moves a short distance into the blade where it forms an oval cutout measuring from 4 x 2mm to 5 x 3mm, usually but not always at the base of the leaf. The cutout is usually made in July. It is easily overlooked, and the dots on the map are probably an underestimate of its distribution in the county. We have records from all five vice-counties.

Sutton & Beaumont, 1989: Widely distributed and common in vice-counties 62 and 63. Also recorded from VC64 but not from either VC61 or VC65.
