Yorkshire Status: Local resident.

Porritt described this species as "common" in 1907, but it must have declined since then as we receive small numbers of records, and in some years, none at all. Although it is meant to feed in bird's nests, virtually all of our records are indoors in houses where the larvae feed on other animal products, but not usually on clothes in spite of the vernacular name "Brown-dotted Clothes Moth". Occasional moths have turned up at light, but we only have one record associated with birds' nests. Identification is not always easy and if in any doubt it should be dissected.

Sutton & Beaumont, 1989: Porritt (1907) listed this species as common, although it had been recorded sporadically from vice-counties 62 and 63 there is only a single record from VC64, Askham Bog in 1929 (AS coll.) and none are to hand from vice-counties 61 and 65.
