Yorkshire Status: Local resident.

This is not a common moth in the county. It was first added to the Yorkshire list in 1982 when a moth was attracted to light at West Melton. It was next seen in 2004 and we have had scattered records since then from various sites across the county with the exception of VC62 where it has still not been recorded. It is usually associated with nests of hole nesting birds, and half of our records have been from bird boxes or bred from owl box litter. The rest have been moths at light. It is not an easy moth to identify as it is very similar in appearance to Niditinea fuscella. If there is any doubt it should be dissected.
