Yorkshire Status: Common resident.

This is a common and widespread species all across the county. It is larger and more colourful than most of the genus and easily identified. Most records are at light. The larvae feed on birds' nest material - usually nests in the open rather than those in nest boxes. It is an easily recognisable species; the only vaguely similar species being Tinea trinotella. Numbers have increased in recent years, especially the second brood which was unknown before 2002.

Sutton & Beaumont, 1989: Widely recorded from all five vice-counties and fairly common.

Recorded in 106 (53%) of 200 10k Squares.
First Recorded in 1859.
Last Recorded in 2024.
