Yorkshire Status: Very rare and very local resident.

This rare species was found in 1858 by Thomas Wilkinson on Cloughton Moor near Scarborough on greater bird's-foot trefoil "and since then has been collected there in plenty" according to Porritt in 1883. It then apparently disappeared from the county until it was rediscovered in 2010 near Blaxton, south-east of Doncaster. There have been several records in this area since then. It is not obvious which bird's-foot trefoil species the mines were found on.

Mines are distinctive and to quote the Dutch leaf-miner site - "The mine is an upper-surface blotch without anything like a preceding corridor. The blotch is about circular, but may have broad lobes. Black frass grains lie in indistinct arcs or spirals, glued to the upper epidermis, and forming a dark central patch. The larva can leave a mined leaf, and restart elsewhere." The lack of an early corridor rules out confusion species.
