Yorkshire Status: Fairly common resident.

This species occurs widely across the county. Like all Parornix species, adults need dissection to identify them, so most of our records are of leaf mines. These are usually on rowan, but are sometimes seen on whitebeam. Less commonly it feeds on apple. Mines start as a brown blotch, then the larva folds over a leaf edge in typical Parornix fashion, the edges being held together with silk. Occasionally this happens in the centre of the leaf. The copious silk is unlike the mines of Phyllonorycter sorbi with which it is sometimes confused.

Sutton & Beaumont, 1989: Locally fairly common and quite widespread but there is no record from VC61.
