Yorkshire Status: Local resident.

This species was added to the British list in 1970 and first appeared in Yorkshire in 1981. It is probably fairly widespread across the county, and is likely to be more common than the scattered dots on the maps suggest, as like other sallow-feeders, the leaf mines are not diagnostic and the moth must be bred out. We now have records from all five vice-counties of moths bred from goat willow or grey willow. The mine is usually a large lower surface mine, which contorts the upper surface of the leaf. It is very similar to that of P. hilarella. Adults are identifiable, as long as you are careful to exclude P. hilarella and P. salicicolella. The basal streak is slightly upturned for its distal third, and the first pair of strigulae curve curve towards the apex at a sharp angle, the dorsal being longer than the costal.

Mine: Moth needs to be reared and, in some cases, possibly dissected.
