Yorkshire Status: Fairly common resident.

This species was first found in Yorkshire in 2001 at Brighouse in VC63, and by 2017 had been seen in all fie vice-counties. Whether it has genuinely spread or whether we are better at finding it is open to argument. It is probably a combination of the two. This is very much the hornbeam equivalent of P. coryli on hazel, in that the larvae form flat oval silvery blotches on the upper surface of hornbeam leaves. These are quite unmistakable, and remain flat for some time, before eventually contracting and distorting the leaf. Its distribution is only limited by a lack of hornbeam in some parts of the county.
