Yorkshire Status: Common and widespread resident.

In 1883 Porritt said this was "a very beautiful species and apparently abundant everywhere". A century later in 1989 Sutton and Beaumont described it as "widespread and abundant throughout all five vice-counties". It remains common and we usually receive 2-300 records per year. The main confusion species is the even more beautiful A. brockeella but wing markings are usually sufficiently distinct to enable identification. The main problem is that both species show unicolorous forms where the markings are only dimly visible. Dark forms of goedartella however have a more glossy and more golden appearance. Both these two species occupy similar habitats, the larvae feeding on birch and alder.
