Yorkshire Status: Fairly common resident.

This species is probably more common than the dots on the maps suggest. The characteristic mines can be found on both wild and garden varieties of Hypericum (St John's Wort), sometimes in good numbers, and we have records all across the county. The mine starts as a long narrow gallery with linear frass, traversing the leaf several times before abruptly turning into a large irregular blotch with scattered frass which tends to be concentrated in the centre. It is an easy mine to recognise as nothing makes a similar pattern on Hypericum, and the brown blotches can often be seen from a distance.

Sutton & Beaumont, 1989: Recorded from all five vice-counties. Locally common among St John's-wort.

Recorded in 48 (24%) of 200 10k Squares.
First Recorded in 1883.
