Yorkshire Status: adventive/migrant.

This adventive species was first recorded in the UK in 2006. Larvae feed on olive trees, in a web on the underside of a leaf. The pupa is in a dense white cocoon amongst the leaves. The horticultural trade and our current enthusiasm for growing olive trees in our gardens are likely to be responsible for its spread, but it is doubtful whether it would survive a Yorkshire winter outdoors. The other possibility is that it is also said to occur as a migrant.. Our only record is of a moth attracted to actinic light at Baildon on 6/7/2021. Its origin is unknown, as the neighbours did not appear to be growing olives, and the local garden centre was a good distance away. It did not turn up at a time of high migrant activity, however it is interesting that the first record for Lancashire turned up two months later on 8th September. It shares the distinctive "head-down" posture with it's relative, Zelleria hepariella but has quite different markings.
