Yorkshire Status: Local resident.

Porritt in 1883 found C. subfasciella "abundant amongst firs everywhere". He did not mention C. gysseleniella which seems not to have been recorded until 1913, but both species are now equally common in the county. The two species should be easily separable when fresh. C. subfasciella is darker brown, with a white chevron-shaped fascia between the two brown area. C. gysseleniella is a little larger and has two pale golden coloured crossbands which can sometimes merge to form a larger golden area. Larvae of G. subfascialla mine towards the base of a pine needle whereas C. gysseleniella mine towards the tip.
