Yorkshire Status: Fairly common resident

This species was admitted to the Yorkshire list as recently as 2005 and we now have records from all five vice-counties. It has probably always been present and was formerly considered to just be the dark form of Prays fraxinella, but DNA analysis showed that it was a separate species. It can easily be confused with the dark rustica form of fraxinella but it slightly smaller and has a more bright orange head and plain unmarked brown forewings with no suggestion of the fraxinella pattern showing. Some individuals can be tricky to determine. The larvae feed in a similar way to fraxinella.

Recorded in 30 (15%) of 200 10k Squares.
First Recorded in 2010.
Last Recorded in 2024.
