Yorkshire Status: Local resident.

This is one of the easier Coleophora species to find, as once you have your eye in, the tiny feeding blotches on hedge woundwort betray the presence of the little woolly case beneath. It will feed on a variety of related plants, but the vast majority of Yorkshire records are on hedge woundwort. Rarely it has been found on black horehound. The attractive (for a Coleophora) adult is fairly distinctive. It could possibly be mistaken for C. conyzae, though this is an extremely rare beast in the county, not having been seen for many years. Dissection therefore is usually a good idea, as you might strike lucky and find conyzae. Most of our records are from the south and east of the county, though to a certain extent that might reflect the distribution of those who enjoy finding larval cases!
