Yorkshire Status: Rare and very local resident.

All of our records of this species are from Spurn, where it was first noted by H.N. Michaelis who wrote in The Naturalist 76:190 "common August 1949". There have been several records since then, the frequency being proportional to the willingness of recorders to dissect the many Coleophora species that occur at Spurn. All records have been of adults, and none of the larval cases on sea aster. The case is dark brown,6mm long, cigar-shaped and largely undecorated apart from a few pappus hairs. It is possible to confuse them with cases of C. virgaureae so moths should be bred through and dissected. Sea aster also occurs on Teesside and the moth should be looked for there.

Determination by Genitalia Examination (gen. det.) Required

Case: A good quality photo or specimen of the case and plant/pabulum and gen. det. of bred moth is required.

Recorded in 2 (1%) of 200 10k Squares.
First Recorded in 1949.
