Yorkshire Status: Adventive

This species was first described in 1977 from Italy and was first recorded in Britain from Devon in 2003. It spread rapidly and our first record came from Langthorpe in 2020. It continued to increase its range, and by 2023 we had records from all five vice-counties, though from only a few sites. It is likely to spread further in coming years. Larvae are thought to feed on fungi under the bark of dead or dying trees. Spread across the country could have been facilitated by the log trade. The adults look quite distinctive, but they could be confused with the rather similar Metalampra cinnamomea which has not yet been recorded in the UK. This has a darker ground colour and larger pale markings - see photos at More Info .
