Yorkshire Status: Local resident.

Porritt called this species "abundant everywhere" in 1907. It would be difficult to claim that is the case nowadays, but perhaps Porritt engaged in more field work in oak woodland in October whereas we all just trap in our gardens this late in the year. The distribution map looks rather empty, with most records coming from the south-east of VC63, but it may well be under-recorded. On a sunny afternoon in good quality oak woodland, it can still occur in numbers, for example 16 at Pretty Wood in VC62 on 22/10/2024. Adults are sexually dimorphic, the females having shorter, pointier, greyer and more streaky wings. We still have no record from VC65.

Sutton & Beaumont, 1989: Widely recorded but less common than D. fagella (Denis & Schiffermuller) and not recorded from VC65.

Recorded in 28 (14%) of 200 10k Squares.
First Recorded in 1859.
Last Recorded in 2024.
