Yorkshire Status: Local resident.

Like its sister species, this moth is rather local in the county, but might prove to be commoner if recorders searched for its larval mines. Porritt knew of several sites - Huddersfield, Doncaster and Redcar in his 1883 list and Skipwith in 1904. We have had scattered records across all five vice-counties ever since. Adults are not often seen, and are rather shy in coming to light, so most of our records are of mines. These are quite different from the "gut-like" arcs of C. drurella. A short thin corridor is over-ridden by a large white blotch with a lump of black frass at the centre, though this is sometimes expelled. Be aware that there are species of diptera which make blotch mines on the same food plants. If you see the larvae it becomes much easier. In Yorkshire, larvae have been seen on various species of goosefoots and orache, especially spear-leaved orache Atriplex prostrata which is common along the edges of roads in the salt-splash zone.
