Yorkshire Status: Local resident.

This attractive species was known to Porritt from two sites - Doncaster and Scarborough. It was recorded from Pickering in 1956, but there were few records until after 2000, since when it has occurred regularly at some sites in the east of VC63, especially Austerfield where it could almost be described as common. In 2015 it was seen at North Cliffe Wood, and this remains the only record from VC61. Our records are the most northerly in the country. Larvae feed on hawthorn or apple (including domestic cultivars), and rarely on rowan. It is a moth of hedgerows and orchards, and the distinctive wing markings means that it should not be confused with any other species.
