Yorkshire Status: Common resident.

This is the second most common member of the genus in Yorkshire, B. terrella being the commonest. The larvae feed on mosses on walls and roofs, especially Bryum capillare or Tortula muralis, so it is common around houses and in gardens. Fresh specimens are not too difficult to identify, their wings speckled with pale yellow scales, and pale yellow or white edging to the "Bryotropha spots", both in front and behind. Worn moths might need dissection.

Recorded in 93 (47%) of 200 10k Squares.
First Recorded in 1883.
Last Recorded in 2024.
