Yorkshire Status: Local resident.

Batrachedra pinicolella has now been split (2022) into Batrachedra pinicolella and Batrachedra confusella. Dissection will now be required to confirm or re-confirm all records.

The records listed have been confirmed by dissection, including the old 2006 specimens for which we still had slides. This species is probably a lot more widespread than these few records suggest. All undissected records have been changed to Batrachedra pinicolella/confusella. Batrachedra pinicolella has not (yet!) been recorded in the county. It is likely that B. pinicolella feeds on spruce Picea abies whilst B. confusella feeds on various Pinus species and possibly Larix. Most confusella seems to have been caught near Scots pine, so it is certainly worth dissecting any specimens found in or near spruce plantations to see if pinicolella does in fact occur in the county.
