Yorkshire Status: Local resident.

This species was first recorded in Yorkshire at Potteric Carr in 2000. Numbers increased substantially after 2010, and it reached VC61 and 64 in 2013 and VC62 in 2017. It has not (yet) been seen in VC65. The larvae feed inside the pith of stems of great willowherb but do not form prominent galls in the manner of M. divisella and M. bradleyi. Before pupation they make an exit hole in the stem but leave a paper-thin epidermis intact as a round or oval cap. Adults are generally duller than M. divisella or M. bradleyi but at times they can look remarkably similar. Dissection is recommended if recorded from a new site or if there is any doubt.

Retained Specimen / Photograph will be Required.
