Yorkshire Status: Rare and very local resident.

Sutton & Beaumont, 1989: A few additional localities have been found in the Wolds for this rare species.

2012 (CHF): No records from the Wolds since 1984. Four records from Spurn 1993 to 2001 but not seen in the county since then.

Argus 84, 2018: Between 1960 and 1984 there were several records of this species in VC61 on the Wolds, and subsequently there were scattered records at Spurn until 2001. We now have more records, the first in the county since then and they are geographically close to some recent records in north Nottinghamshire. They are the first records in VC63 since Porritt's time. This is therefore another Pug to look out for in the south-east of VC63. It is not too difficult to recognise, as fresh moths show a marked contrast between the darker outer areas of the forewing and the paler inner areas. The costa is straight, the wings are narrow and the discal spot, if present, is very small. The number of moths trapped at Austerfield implies a thriving population in the vicinity. Records seem to be commoner on calcareous soils and the larvae feed on a variety of herbaceous plants including ragwort, hawkbits and knapweeds.
